Edinburgh Hate Festival

I've been having a bit of an argument with some of the folk over at Tim Blair's place.

The article at Tim Blair's place quotes out of context comments in a Scotsman review of a show by an Australian comedian at the Fringe. The article tries to make some teenage point about leftists being anti-semitic. The comments (other than David Farrer's) are filled with Arab-hating, Islam-hating and, remarkably, Scot-hating bile.

There do seem to be an awful lot of people who think that to be "Right" you have to line up with Israel, and that any criticim of Israel justifies venting bile against any other race or religion, though particularly against Muslims.

I'm not sure why so many non-residents of the Middle East consider themselves so well informed about the conflict in that region that they should associate with one side or the other. I am amazed and concerned that anyone should consider a pro-Israeli stance is a facet of the political Right, whether in Scotland, England or the USA.

I would have made this point directly on the Tim Blair site, but unlike the Fringe, they apparently don't allow just anyone free speech.
