Bill Sounds like a good idea to me; I lived in Edinburgh during my early childhood, but it's too long ago to remember if he had this holiday then.
By the way, 24th May was Queen Victoria's birthday and for various reasons (in Canada, at least) the 'Soveriegn's Birthday' is always celebrated on the Monday preceding the 25th May. That's the significance of the date - I suppose Edinburgh must have kept up the tradition. Of course we now celebrate the Queen's 'official' birthday in June, largely for reasons of weather.

dearieme The long Victoria Day weekend falls at the time of year when the weather is usually best in the West Highlands, and gives you 4 days to get there and enjoy it.
