With a quick restructuring (debt/equity swap probably) some of the losses would have ended up falling on us anyway (via losses to pension funds etc.) but at least we might have had a principled, consistent and clean approach to the crisis, and the banks would be in better shape (for some unfathomable reason everyone is worrying about the banks' assets rather than their liabilities).

Bill (Scotland) A view I've expressed, too - however,, the harsh reality is that the 'great and good' have one vote apiece like everyone else, so the nicnompoops in Downing Street have other priorities. In any case my belief is that the whole purpose of this crowd of charlatans has been to destory capital and force alomost the whole population into subservience to the State; it's a mistake to think this has been an unfortunate 'accident', it has been Brown's whole purpose since he became Chancellor in 1997.
