Carbon Footprints

Of course, I'm pretty sure that this whole subject is a load of nonsense and its sole purpose is to extend the power of the state. But let's take these carbon fanatics at their word.

Today I was talking to a citizen of an Eastern European non-EU country. Previously this person had been spending time in Germany and had obtained a visa from a UK consulate over there to do research in Edinburgh. Because the sponsoring organisation screwed things up, my contact has to fly to Germany next week for a day merely to renew the visa. It can't be done here. The only way to get back in time for appointments relating to the research is to return via London. So, three completely unnecessary flights are to be undertaken simply because the authorities are living in the eighteenth century.

Facinating to see who Gus has in the top right of his homepage banner.

GUS: "..suggest taking a look at some of the people Durkin culludes with..."

Sentiments that might equally be applied to the man himself.

GUS: "Are you saying that global warming has been invented by the govt?"

Nah! they are not clever enough. But the can't see a bandwagon rolling by without jumping on board.

Last weeks programme was travesty of science and bad tv. The notion that the overwhelming majority of scientists throughout the globe have a vested interest over the sort of people denying the reality who are funded by Big Oil, is frankly unhinged.

Here's one of a dozen rebuttals of the programme:

and I'd seriously suggest taking a look at some of the people Durkin culludes with who are really professional propagandists.

Gus,

When Eisenhower retired he warned of a "Military Industrial Complex" that was dominating American politics. Of course, libertarians (formerly known as "liberals") have always warned about how producer groups use the power of the state to further their own ends at the taxpayers' expense. I think that we are now victims of a "Green Political Complex" that operates like all those other groups of tax-consumers who have ripped us off over the decades.

It does look likely that global warming exists. What's by no means clear is whether it is caused by mankind. See tonight's TV programme as one of hundreds of sceptical observations that I've seen on this latest scare. Whenever folk say that there's a problem and that the solution is to give more taxpayers' money to those self-same "experts", it's time to zip up your wallet.

I'm not sure what 'Of course, I'm pretty sure that this whole subject is a load of nonsense and its sole purpose is to extend the power of the state' actually means. Are you saying that global warming has been invented by the govt? Or that the fiasco of carbon trading has been invented?

Fed up as I was with the constant bleating about man-made global
warming we get on the BBC, I thought I would find out just what they
are doing to help the planet. So I put in a FOI request asking about
the air miles the BBC fly, the carbon that this produces, and how the
BBC offsets this. Get ready for some amazing numbers (all relate to
the last reporting year):

Total UK domestic flights: 17 million miles
Total European flights: 14 million miles
Other flights: 94 million miles

Total air miles: 125 million

Total cost: £15,147,000

TOTAL CO2 EMISSIONS: 25,676,000 Kgs

TOTAL CO2 OFFSET: 0 kgs. Yes, 0 Kg.
