Left or right: it ain't necessarily so

I was pleased to see this item in yesterday's Sunday Times:
IF you think you know whether your politics are right-wing or left-wing, think again. An online quiz that rates where participants stand in the political spectrum is proving a revelation in Britain and America.
The quiz is well-known in the US but this is first time I've seen it mentioned in the mainstream press in Britain.

You can find out where you stand in the political spectrum by going here.

Simon Jester - good to see another fan of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress around!!!

disbelieving in astrology makes you an authoritarian?

No, I think the reverse - believing in astrology makes you an authoritarian AFAIK. It comes from a questionnaire used by the US occpuation forces to detect Nazi sympathisers after the war.

I love the Political Compass question. I always end up being much more of a hardcore libertarian (Right -0.88 Authoritarian -8.51) than all these national conservatives who call themselves libertarians because they want lower taxes; while supporting the invasion of Iraq and opposing gay marriage.

It is a shame that it does not ask "are you in favour of the free movement of goods, services, capital and labour across international boundaries?"

None of you anti-immigrants could then boast that you were "100% libertarian", because you right-wingers all oppose economic migration.

The Political Compass is very biased to the left and has some appalling questions.

Libertarian (bordering Centrist).

I guess that gives the lie to those contributors who are fond of calling me "left".

Personally, I prefer the label Centrist.

100% libertarian on the WSPQ - quelle surprise.

Tried PC.org in the past, hated it. Vast reams of dodgy questions - some meaningless, some slanted, some merely inapplicable. Also, some extremely strange interpretation - disbelieving in astrology makes you an authoritarian?

"Borderline between Left (Liberal) and Libertarian." Pretty accurate in my case, I think.

Rather a limited number of answers to decide I am a libertarian, there must be more to it than this?
