Another blast from the monstrous regiment of statists

It's blame John Knox time again:
SCOTLAND should throw off the burden of "doom and gloom" imposed by Reformation preacher John Knox and pursue happiness for the sake of its health, according to the country's chief medical officer.

Dr Harry Burns said a number of studies had found anxiety, pessimism and a sense of hopelessness had serious effects on health and could shorten a person's life by up to 15 years.

At least the old boy thought that Scotland should have schools that would produce a literate population.

My ma was a Presbyterian, and as cheerful and twinkly a biddy as you could find - so unlike the solemn sods hereabouts in the Sarf. Bah humbug.

Dr Harry aint makin much sense:

He said he was "100 per cent" behind policies adopted in several countries designed to boost citizens' happiness.

Yup, yet another statist top down solution, pretty much as standard for this nations political establishment.

However he is then quoted further on in the article saying the following:

"We need to get optimism in. We need to say we can make things better, we need to get people on incapacity benefit to feel valued again, to take control over their lives. That will make a difference. To talk ourselves down does nobody any good.”

He is still sticking with the aforementioned top down approach, however he now says “take control over their lives”, which is precisely what would solve the problem (or at least reduce it considerably), but is also totally anathema to the nannying statist culture in Scotland.

In the end there is always going to be that vested interest that will want to keep people in dependency, and until that is seriously challenged all this is just predictable prattle.

P.S. Leave John Knox out of this! His kind did more to liberate the people from the statists of the day than people like Harry Burns and Carol Craig could ever dream of.
