Jim Moohan, a senior organiser for the GMB trade union, said: "This is a major blow to the industry in Scotland. One of the reasons for us joining the campaign several years ago to keep water as part of the public services and prevent privatisation was to protect the jobs and terms of conditions of the employees, so the numbers being talked about are absolutely devastating.Hopefully this will lead to the privatisation of Scottish Water, something that the producer-oriented politicians and trade unionists will fight to the bitter end.
