EUROPEAN bureaucrats will push forward legislation today to force the Scottish Executive to change place-names that offend or discriminate on the grounds of race and gender.I'm afraid that it's no joke. At least, that's what First Minister Jack'n'Jill McConnell told me.

I read this Thursday night, not realising that the next day was April Fool's. It certainly made much more sense in the light of that secular holiday.
However, if this is no bluff (Parentwell?), I truly mourn for the good folk of Scotland. Helensburgh is a truly wonderful town.

Motherwell is to become less offensive, apparently by 1st April 2006.

I'm sorry but I cannot believe that.
If it's true, then which 'offensive' place-names would be altered?
